What is it?

A fraudulent charge of $9.99 appeared on my Visa card 10/20/20. I reported it to the bank. The tranaaction description was "Spotify USA 877-7781161 NY".

If you want resolution read this.

You cannot call Spotify, you have to login and chat with customer service. My wife has one free account with Spotify so I had to use her login information in order to contact customer support, so this may not help for those that do not have any account w/Spotify. Maybe create one?

I had three recurring charges on my credit card with the description "Spotify USA 8777781161 NY". Go to www.spotify.com and login. Scroll down on the main page under "Useful Links", click "Support", scroll down again to "Useful Links" and click "Contact Spotify". Click "Message us" under "Send us a message". Click "Start messaging". Once you explain the situation to a rep you'll have to fill out a form to provide the first 6# of your credit card, along with the last 4#. They'll ask you if you recognize emails related to the account charges and if you don't, they'll transfer you to a specialist who'll further investigate. Then they'll submit a refund if you state that you don't recognize the provided emails.

Also - "Spotify USA 8777781161 NY" is not a fraudulent account that some on here are claiming. It's their billing account.

In my case the charge is legitimate -- indeed from Spotify. However, the account is not :) Someone got my card info and subscribed to Spotify. Spotify's online support was impeccable, in just a few minutes I provided my card number, they spotted the email used to create the account and I confirmed it is not an email I recognize. Account being canceled and I am being refunded. +1 to Spotify's customer service.

Why is this still happening!? I got this charge changed card to a new one from the bank and they got my new card. I don’t have a Spotify account. Who do I contact for removal besides my bank?

I noticed a Spotify 877-7881161 NY charge on my card in Aug 22 for July. I called my credit card support number and cancelled that card and now I get a new card number and it has another charge from same Spotify number again. Don't know where they got my old card now new card info.

How is this still happening in today's world? I've been charged twice now for $15.99 each time. Is there any way to cancel this without changing my credit card number AGAIN?

The fraudulent charges on my credit card were also identified as "Spotify USA 877-7881161." In my case, the debits to my account were made by the "real" Spotify. I contacted them, and with a little additional credit card information, they were able to identify a bogus email (nowhere near my email address) attached to the charges to my credit card number. They blocked further charges at their end and recommended I call my bank and cancel the card, which I did. Spotify was unusually generous in refunding all the fraudulent charges, even though it was my fault that I did not catch the problem much sooner. Surprisingly (to me, at least) their customer service was friendly and very efficient in identifying and dealing with the problem. By the time I contacted my bank, the refunds to my credit card were already pending.

I just noticed $10.95 is being taken from account from Spotify whoever the H!! they are which I want stopped . I have no idea what this is for but whatever it is it needs to be STOP

My card was used to pay for Spotify Premium for months (got lost in the numerous Spotify accts my family has). Chatted with their CS and they found someone the Czech Republic (!) using it. Blocked them and the account and very nicely refunded the fraudulent charges. Called Citi and they said that I needed to block all recurring charges on the old card before getting a new one issued. Otherwise, any established recurring charges would roll over to the new card. For now, I'm going to monitor but if I get hit again, will cancel. This info is for those wondering how the charges continued with a new card issued. You need to block all recurring charges first. Then, get a new card and reestablish recurring charges (Netflix, Hulu, etc.). It's a pain but the only way to stop it for sure.

I noticed the charge when I went to pay my Bank of America card. I have an account but never premium. I found this form by just copying the charge on my account and double-checking that I did not somehow sign up for premium and forget. As soon as it said Free account, I went to Spotify, talked to them and canceled my credit card, and called the bank to report the fraud; the bank, as well as Spotify, is issuing me credit even though I told Spotify that the bank already had done so. They took a deep search and finally found some email with protonmail.com as the ending had used my account. I rarely use this card. The bank but a stop on it, so Spotify can NEVER charge my account if I get hacked again on this card.

This Spotify charge everyone is talking about just happened to me. Navy Federal said it happens to businesses and is always a Spotify charge. As soon as they saw it they said they know about it and removed the charge. They also said that it's not associated with my card for the account but the account itself. They do not know at this point how the bad guys are doing it. They had to change the number to my business account and that was that. Spotify didn't know anything. May the bad guys of the world die a terribly painful death that last for days on end.

Its really spotify but someone got my debit card number which I never use for ANYTHING so no clue how they got it. As someone posted before contact spotify and they will take care of it for you but I am also going to contact my bank as well.

Spotify USA with the number 877-778-1161 is NOT the Spotify music company. "Spotify USA" is a fraudulent company using Spotify's name to steal your money. Cancel your cards and get new ones before they take more of your money.

The charge was a "legit" charge to Spotify but it was someone else using my card. I notified spotify and they tracked down the email of the person who had used my card. They refunded the charges and deleted the premium account of the person who had my card.

THIS "THING" CALLED SPOTIFY ON MY VISA STATEMENT HAS MADE FRAUDULENT CHARGES TWICE IN THREE BILLINGS ** WHO THE "H" ARE THESE FRAUD RATS AND HOW DO WE THROW THEM INTO PRISON???? RECENT AARP BULLETIN COVERED THIS FRAUD STUFF VERY WELL!!

My daughter has a debit card and does not use it online. A charge of $14.99 appeared on her recent transactions from Spotify USA 877-7881161. She does not have Spotify Premium. This is really scary since this card has not been used online to be hacked. We had to report it to the bank and cancel the card.

Spotify Fraud persists. Just adding another report of unauthorized charge. Interestingly, this started when I noticed an unauthorized Paramount+ charge. Reported it, got a new card, and then the Spotify charges started with a brand new card. Can't believe the credit card companies can't do more about this, but I get that it's like Whac-a-Mole with scammers.

Just found out there were 3 charges the last 3 months from ‘Spotify USA 877-7781161 NY’—-I don’t use Spotify or have the app. Called my bank and reported the charges; what’s interesting is I had used Venmo for the very first time that day to send $ to someone, don’t know if that is related, but it is suspicious (as that payment also showed ‘NY’).

Spotify again, 2nd time, $14.99 charge showing up on a NEW credit card issued. Got a text alert. Contacted bank to close acct. Unauthorized recurring charge that I hope doesn't show up again next month. Don't understand how this is happening.

Six charges on the same date were assessed against my credit card by Spotify USA. I have no idea what they were for and I certainly did not authorize them.

Caught a fraud charge on my credit card from "Spotify USA 877-7781161 NY". Had to cancel my credit card and go through the hassle of getting a new one. Hope they get these f rs.

They took money off my card in July and today at 4am this morning I don't have a Spotify Account and now my bank is investigating it, hope they catch these scamming people , My son is a police in NY he's investigating this as well

This must be a hack of the real Spotify, which is online music. Just a guess. I got an unauthorized charge on my credit card too.

The fake Spotify charged my Citi Costco credit card for $14.99 on 4/9/21. I called the bank and bank said charge was declined at that time so I didn't request to cancel the credit card. However, I just got my Citi statement in the mail and the charged appeared. I called Citi bank to dispute the charge and got a new credit card issued. Can't figure out how these scammers got my credit card number.

Can you help? What is this charge?
